Many have wondered when Spanish super club Real Madrid will begin preparations for life after Bale, Benzema and Ronaldo, but that day seems to be coming sooner than expected as Los Blancos have been linked with a host of talented players in the past few weeks.
The latest name on Real’s list, according to Spanish publication El Mundo Deportivo, is that of star Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi, who has been a veritable goal scoring machine during his time playing for the Nerazzurri. The Argentine has already netted 13 times in 13 Serie A games this season, and is close to surpassing the 100 goals mark after just five campaigns with Inter.
Real Madrid meanwhile have been struggling for goals somewhat, at least by their own lofty standards, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema combining for just two La Liga goals this season. Los Blancos have been feeling the effects of their misfiring forwards and have slipped to third in the league table, 10 points behind their eternal rivals Barcelona after just 12 games.
Bringing in a consistent goal scorer to strengthen the squad has thus become the top priority for manager Zinedine Zidane, and Icardi could be the perfect man for the job after so many successful seasons in Milan.
