The Portuguese international is reportedly in London undergoing a medical as the Hammers finalise the terms of the loan agreement with Serie A giants Inter. The deal should be in place in time for the midfielder to make his debut on Tuesday, when the Irons take on Crystal Palace.
Mario has registered three assists in 14 Serie A appearances this season, and had established himself as an important figure in the club’s midfield ahead of this loan switch. The Portuguese man joined Inter from Sporting in 2016 for a fee of €40m, having been part of his Euro 2016-winning national team.
West Ham currently sit 11th in the Premier League table, though they are actually just four points above the relegation zone. The addition of Joao Mario to their injury ravaged midfield will certainly bolster David Moyes’ squad, and should allow them to ensure top flight survival come the end of the season.
For Mario this will present an intriguing new challenge, and could perhaps pave the way for a future permanent move to England, should he succeed in West London.
