Armenia international midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan has lost his place in the starting line-up at Manchester United and appear to be out of favour with Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho.
The 28-year-old playmaker has largely struggled to keep his stock high in England and inconsistent performances cost him a place in the pecking order which ultimately led to intense speculation of possible January departure.
Serie A giants Inter Milan are said to be extremely keen to send Joao Mario to England and to get Mkhitaryan in return but Jose Mourinho would prefer to cash in on the midfielder.
German media outlet Ruhr Nachrichten suggests that Borussia Dortmund have also joined the race and even approached the player himself to talk about a possible reunion.
And even though Borussia Dortmund could be persuaded to fork out £15 million Manchester United are hoping to get for the Armenian, Mkhitaryan would also need to be persuaded to give up a huge chunk of his reported £11 million annual salary.
