In a surprise move, Tottenham are preparing to face off with Valencia in the race to sign Inter Milan midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia, according to ESPN.

The five-times capped French international is currently on a season-long loan deal at the Mestalla and the club are keen to make the deal permanent at the end of the season following a string of impressive appearances as Los Che climbed to second place in La Liga.

With three goals in 12 appearances, Kondogbia is enjoying the best season of his career in front of goal. Prior to this season, his highest-scoring goal return was two during both his seasons in Monaco.

It is claimed the loan deal includes an option to buy and Valencia boss Marcelino is keen for the club to meet the €25m fee. The Mestalla hierarchy has made it plain they want to back their manager’s judgement with the faithful hoping that proves the case.

Tottenham are desperate to improve their squad ahead of a busy second half of the season with the Champions League knockout stage beginning in February.

While Mauricio Pochettino is said to be a keen admirer of the midfielder, that he isn’t cup-tied when it comes to European football. If Tottenham can prise the midfielder away from Milan, that makes him a prime target.
